About Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is the third largest island off the Australian coast. It is 155km long and up to 55km wide, and is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The island’s population is quite small, with most people involved in the fishing and farming industries.

Over 30% of the island’s area is protected by 21 National and Conversation Parks, which contain over 850 plant species and shelter the island’s prolific wildlife.

On our tours we regularly encounter kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, sand monitors (goannas), koalas, possums, seals, colourful parrots and large wading birds. Kangaroo Island is the perfect place to observe native Australian wildlife in its natural habitat. The terrain is gently undulating.

Surrounding the island is dramatic coastline; sheer sea-cliffs, unique rock formations, secluded coves, lonely lighthouses, and white sandy beaches.

There are also a number of limestone caves with amazing formations.

Day 1 - Depart Adelaide by minibus. We will be driving to Cape Jervis and catching the ferry to Penneshaw. On the way to our accommodation we will visit a unique Eucalyptus Distillery, Little Sahara dune complex, and walk among the Australian Sea Lions at Seal Bay on a guided tour.

Day 3 - Visit Flinders Chase National Park to see prolific wildlife. Visit the Fur Seal colony at Cape du Couedic and the Remarkable Rocks. Walk to the mouth of Rocky River. (6km walk, approx 3 hours)

Day 4 - Visit the lonely Cape Borda lighthouse and view the magnificent coastal cliffs of the Island’s North coast. Walk along the beautiful Ravine de Casours to a secluded cove.Spotlighting native animals on our host farm tonight. (8km walk, 3 –4 hours)

Day 5 - A final walk before returning to Adelaide. This may be in the Deep Creek National Park, or at Victor Harbor on the mainland. Alternatively we may drive to Second Valley, and Normanville (still on the Fleurieu Peninsula). **We try to maximise time on the island on all tours, however due to ferry timetables that are out of our control some tours depart the island at 10:30 am on this last day.
